Information from the fHU Executive Board
Dear VDT members,
When the VDT had to discontinue its bereavement support (HU) at the beginning of the year, many of us were saddened. After all, the idea behind the HU was deeply moving: a spirit of solidarity in which we support each other in the most difficult moments of life. When a colleague passed away, the others made a small contribution to help the bereaved cope with the loss. This gesture was more than just financial help, it was an expression of appreciation, solidarity and comfort.
Due to the great desire to continue this tradition, the VDT, some committed members and the VDT's lawyer joined forces and found a solution: The “fHU” (Freiwillige Hinterbliebenen-Unterstützung für Mitglieder des VDT) was founded as an independent association on July 23, 2024. The sole purpose of this association is to provide support for surviving dependants. Its structure is simple and inexpensive. There are only three honorary board members.
What is particularly close to our hearts is the hope that not only the existing HU participants will join the new association, but that we can inspire other members of the VDT to provide this support. Because the power of solidarity lies in the community. If a member dies, all fHU members make a contribution of 10 euros. With 100 members, this amounts to 1,000 euros - a nice sum, but in many cases not enough. However, if we become 500 members, we could already make a tangible contribution of 5,000 euros, which would take a burden off the shoulders of the bereaved.
But so far, only a quarter of the previous HU participants have joined our new association. We need many more, every member counts! That is why we cordially invite you to join our community. The process is straightforward: as long as you are not older than 45, you can join. You can join up to the age of 59 if you have already been a VDT member for 15 years. And there are no age limits for anyone who has already been part of the HU in the VDT. We have designed these age groups to be as fair as possible.
We very much hope that you will join us. Solidarity is invaluable. Let's work together to ensure that no colleague is forgotten and that we can also do something good for our own loved ones one day - on the day that comes for each of us at some point.
Become part of fHU - the VDT's support for surviving dependants. Joining is easy: visit our website “hu-verein.de” and fill in the membership application form.
Best regards
